BLACK AMERICAN INVENTOR’S

SPINNING GIZZZMO FEATURED

And just what is the spinning gizzzmo?  “Find out this weekend in Burlington, and even try out the unusual, fun toy for yourself with tricks and challenges, “ said Judith Schulz, Museum director, “Its science, fun, and a bit of American history.”  Attend the Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum program and tour on Saturday or Sunday, Feb 16 or 17 at 2 pm for a 2.5 hour, fun family visit.

The name of the inventor will be revealed during a demonstration of the device. An exhibit of collectible accessories of the classic toy impresses everyone brings back memories for many.    More than 16 million of these gizzzmos have been sold.  It was so popular that many companies applied their name to it for premiums and advertising; including Kool-Aid, 7-Up, Bardahl, Planter’s Peanuts, and orange juice companies.
This special gizzzmo is one of more than 35 different hands-on spinning tops and top games try, first hand during the tour and workshop.  The museum visit also includes seeing the exhibit of 2,000 antique and modern tops, yo-yos, and gyroscopes; videos; an I Spy Hunt, and a live show by the Tops Expert and top collector.

“Adults enjoy our very unique museum with hands-on time, as much as the kids; and it is a great 3-generation outing,” Schulz added. The one-of-a-kind museum has appeared on Ripley’s Believe it or Not TV, is listed in the credits of an MGM film, worked on an ABC TV series, plus was featured in Reminisce Magazine.  The Top Museum is one of only 50 museums selected nationally to be in the book Offbeat Museums and is included in the new book Weird Wisconsin.
Reservations are required for the tours, as space is limited, and visitors must arrive by 1:50 pm. Children must be with an adult, and the program is best for adults and their children ages 4 to 18.   Admission is $11 per person, all ages.  Free parking is offered in downtown historic Burlington and the museum’s gift shop of more than 400 different spinners is open after the program. Call (262) 763-3946 to register and visit www.topmuseum.org for driving directions to 533 Milwaukee Avenue, Burlington, Wisconsin.
