NEWS RELEASE and all of the details:

                                         SCIENTIFIC SPIN AND BALANCE FUN........

                           TOY GYROSCOPE CONTEST

Families and children can launch gyroscopes at the hands-on demonstration and then watch or take part in the International Gyroscope Contest on (watch for new date, to be announced), in downtown historic Burlington, Wisconsin.   The contest winner receives a classic gyroscope to keep.  Gyroscopes are in the “ spinning top family” and were invented in 1852 by Foucault, a French physicist.  Gyroscopes are amazing to play and experiment with, as they can be balanced in surprising ways and places.  They are a mechanical, fast spinning top suspended in a framework causing the mass to maintain a fixed direction and spin longer than typical tops.
The demonstration will include a traditional gyroscope, one that contains water, and an antique style gyro. Gyroscope Contest has two divisions: longest spin time and tricks.  The Top Museum provides the gyroscope for the timed division., and participants bring or buy their own for the trick divisions.  Ten different types are for sale in the museum gift shop, new and antique.
Gyroscopes are often thought of just a toy, but gyroscopes are used in navigation, missiles, space exploration,  robotics, Segway scooter, and in every plane we fly in.
Then visitors also enjoy the famous tour and hands-on program of the  Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum tour. The program & show is $11 per person, all ages.   The event is best for ages 4-104, and children must be with an adult.
